"ScenicViewer - if anything, I can see the new worldwide HQ becoming the permanent compound of the Governing Body once the organization shrinks to an almost infinitesimal size." like a Hitlerian bunker, circa 1945?

The Predictions Thread
by cedars ini thought it might be interesting and fun to have a "predictions thread", where we set out our predictions for events to unfold concerning the watch tower society (or jehovah's witnesses in general) over the coming years/decades.. it strikes me that so much has happened in the last ten years, most of which has defied expectations.
here's just a few of the developments that i can think of:.
the abolishment of group book studies in favor of a "family worship evening"the creation of a "study edition" watchtowerthe halving of monthly magazine printing commitmentsthe unprecedented closure/merging of branches (16% reduction in branches last year)the menlo park scandal, a body of elders removed for resisting a refurb of their kingdom hallthe lawsuits in victoria, australia - the society taken to court concerning child protection lawscourtroom admissions about the faithful & discreet slave and similarities with the catholic churchincreased hate speech against "mentally diseased" apostatesastonishing lapses of judgment, such as the "selma and steve" study articlethe ditching of gilead as a school for missionariesambitious construction plans for a new world hq (with or without jehovah's blessing!

I believe they'll (grudgingly) be compelled come to terms with the evolution, age-of-man issues over the next decade; after all Russell allowed for the possibility of evolution, with the exception of humans. The only alternative is increased marginalization.

"The other sheep should never forget that their salvation depends on their active support of Christ’s anointed “brothers”
still on earth. (Matt. 25:34-40)" If that isn't blasphemy, then I don't understand my dictionary's definition of the term. Also, note how the sentence is framed in the third person: The other sheep "their salvation:" "their active support" ... most of today's WT writers are of the "Other Sheep" class.. none of the Governing Body are described as writers.

The Great Debate: "Has Science Refuted Religion?
by dark angle injust want to share this amazing debate!
caltech cosmologist and physicist sean carroll teams up with skeptic magazine publisher and science historian michael shermer in this epic debate with noted conservative author and king's college president dinesh d'souza and mit physicist ian hutchinson as they go head-to-head over one of the most controversial issues of our age.
as science pushes deeper into territory once the province of religion, with questions such as why there is something rather than nothing?, where did the universe come from?, how did life arise?, what was the origin of morality?, and others, inevitable conflicts arise over the best approach to answer them.

I think that one needs to proceed cautiously with terminology, understanding that a wide chasm separates spirituality from institutionalized relgion

Did you used to be an assembly food rapist?
by yourmomma ini confess proudly that i was one of the biggest assembly food rapists when it switched to the donation arrangement.
in fact, i would roll up to the counter with a fake list and pretend i was getting food for a huge family, lol.
"uh, yes, hello sister, what a fine morning program that was, may i please have 6 roast beef sandwhiches, 6 chocolate puddings, 6 apple danishes, 6 sodas....etc" and i would eat throughout the entire fking program, as it was so boring there was nothing else to do.

I goota confes, I used to love the chicken they served at the Buckingham (Pa.) assembly hall... it used to be falling-off-the-bone perfect and moist, delicious... and it was made in bulk, without a great deal of fuss; it drove me nuts that I coudn't duplicate it at home.

tweaking the NWT and releasing it to a captive audience is a low-cost "no-brainer" revenue enhancer for a cash-strapped organization, don't you think?

Blantant coitridiction in todays wt
by elderelite inthis isnt news worthy of course, but i thought i would point it out anyway... apologies to blondie, i dont see the normal wt thread yet.... .
para 2 states that "the other sheep should never forget their salvation depends on their active support of christs anointed "brothers" [gb] still on earth".
para 13 says "he [peter] pointed out that their hope is not founded on their works, but on [the deserts gods] undeserved kindness".

"We thus have no way of knowing the exact number of anointed ones on earth; nor do we need to know. The Governing Body does not keep a list of all partakers, for it does not maintain a global network of anointed ones." .
... don't have an access to the magazine in question....did they actually say this? I think it's significant in that it debunks the notion, held by so many JWs, that the printed information is drawn from the collective input of individual members of the anointed scattered around the world who contribute insights which are collated at headquarters.

NWT 2012 Revision - Your Suggestions Please
by cofty inso if its true that a new 2012 version of the new world translation is to be released at this year's dc what changes do you think they will have made?.
don't forget your square brackets for interpolations.. .
"this good news of the kingdom will be preached to all the [developed] world and then the end will come" - matt 24:14.

Room 215
Are they really planning to release a revised NWT? I think it's a measure of how desperately they're rummaging around to come up with something fresh -- and substantial in appearance -- to satisfy the expectations of the rank and file. Gone forever, it seems, are the days when one or two large multi-hundred-page books with newly minted ideas full of dazzling "New Light", etc. would be released at one convention.
Yes, indeed, Freddie is a tough act to follow!
